BOBBI BROWN BRIGHTEN, SPARKLE & GLOW 2013 SPRING COLLECTION

Brightening Finishing Powder ($50): Yeah, this is expensive. And yeah, all those pastels look a little wacky, considering this isn’t an eye palette. But one swirl of a fluffy brush over the surface of this radiant powder, and your complexion will be transformed. You’ll go from tired, saggy, sallow, and blah to perky, bright, and luminous. Swear! It’s a miracle in a compact. Dust on a sheer veil after you’ve applied the rest of your makeup and watch your complexion light up. Also, the pressed powder is infused with a skin-brightening blend of Mulberry, Grape and Scutellaria extracts and Sodium Hyaluronate (which is like a moisture magnet) to keep skin fresh, glowy, and smooth.

Sparkle Eyeshadow ($28): This new limited-edition gilded shade is in addition to the lineup of seven other shimmery, shiny shades.

#01 Silver Moon
#03 Ballet Pink
#04 Mica
#20 Cement
#22 Black Chocolate
#23 Gold Star Venus

High Shimmer Lip Gloss ($24): This is one of my favorite formulas of lip gloss, because the shimmer really does brighten up your whole complexion, without going anywhere near the realm of tacky. Available in 17  Shades.

Bare Sparkle
Beach
Bellini
Black Ruby
Bronzed Heather
Canary
Citrus
Electric Violet
Firefly
Hot
Midnight Violet
Naked Plum
Pastel
Pink Tulle

Extra Soothing Balm ($58): A great first step toward getting a glowing complexion.

Sheer Color Cheek Tint ($26): Sheer Pink and Sheer Berry. I have raved about the Sheer Pink shade of this product for about three years, and then they stopped making it. I’m still squeezing bits out of my old push-up stick, savoring the last morsels. And now it’s back! Honestly, my favorite cream blush ever. It’s so dewy and glides on cheeks so smoothly…it’s a dream.

Retouching Powder Collection ($36): This multipurpose powder does pretty much anything you need it to. It can stand in as a blush or bronzer. It can be used for midday or after-work touch-ups to refresh your makeup. It can be mixed with moisturizer to make your skin look extra dewy (in a good way). It also minimizes redness, soothes and calms skin, brightens, evens tone and discolorations, minimizes the appearance of fine lines, and gives you an overall airbrushed look. In Yellow, Rose, Peach, White, and Brown.

White: Brightens and illuminates alabaster to light skin
Pink: Counteracts sallow undertones in alabaster to medium skin tones
Yellow: Tones down redness in extra light to medium skin tones
Peach: Warms up light skin tones. Evens out tanned and medium to dark skin tones
Rose: Gives light to deep skin tones in a healthy flush of color
Brown: Warms up dark and rich skin tones

Brow Pencil ($22): I am officially a broken record: brows can make you look totally polished and pulled-together, or like a hot mess. If you only have 30 seconds for makeup in the morning, perfect your skin and define and groom your brows! Pencil is the quickest, easiest way to fill in sparse spots, and you’ll be amazed at how fully it pulls your whole look together. The new shade Brunette will be a savior for you darker-haired ladies.

Tinted Eye Brightener ($30): Dark circles? Forget about ‘em! This magic wand will whisk them away in one swipe. This is the product you ladies battling dark circles (myself included) have been dreaming of! For an extra punch, layer it over Bobbi’s Corrector to look well-rested, healthy, and utterly luminous. Available in 10 shades (listed from lightest to darkest): Porcelain Bisque, Light Bisque, Bisque, Medium to Dark Bisque, Dark Bisque, Porcelain Peach (pictured), Light to Medium Peach, Peach, Dark Peach, and Deep Peach.

NO MORE EYESHADOW CREASING!

MAC Paint Pots:

I recently started using MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot for the first time.  This product is part of their permanent collection, and I’ve heard people talk about it for years, but I’ve always been drawn Painterly Paint Pot over this one for a creamy nude color.  A couple of months ago I decided to switch things up and give this shade a try! MAC Paint Pots are cream eyeshadows that can be worn alone or used as a primer/base under other eyeshadows. They have a highly pigmented colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast and creates a seamless coverage without weight or any caking. Mac pots blend smoothly over the lids and can be mixed with other shadows and liners.
If you have any problems with (Creasing) from other primers or you do not use anything underneath your shadow, I definitely would suggest giving Mac Pots a try, they absolutely work  and will keep your eyeshadow in place all day. Also depending upon color of the mac pot you choose  your eyeshadow color will really pop! (I prefer a lighter color for versatility) MAC Pots are usually my go-to  for primers, especially for high performance and long lasting on a shoot.
I love the consistency, they keep the powder eyeshadows bright, and they don’t ever crease on me!  I prefer something like a Paint Pot over a primer like Urban Decay’s Primer Potion because a paint pot acts as a foundation for the eyelid and covers up any veining, redness and any other discoloration in the skin while leaving a smooth and perfect canvas to begin applying other products on.
Soft Ochre is a light nude cream with yellow undertones.  It has no sheen or shimmer to it.  Soft Ochre is a little lighter and more yellow than Painterly Paint Pot, which is more of a beige/pink nude.  In general I would say if you wear yellow/warm foundations, Soft Ochre would suit you best.  If you wear pink/cool foundations, Painterly may be better. If you happen to be neutral, you really could lean either way.
Soft Ochre applies on the skin like a super creamy concealer.  It can be blended sheerly, or layered for full coverage.  This color would make a great “nude” primer for people with light to medium complexions.  On deeper complexions, it would work great for lightening and brightening the eye area to apply lighter shadows.

Most importantly and i can never stress this enough and all great MUA know that great tools are the key to a flawless makeup application.
I have used every brush in the world it seems from craft stores to every department store brand on the planet and my team and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the brushes from the adesign brush collection, they are created for professional makeup artists and can turn the everyday diva into an artist in seconds with there specially crafted hand cut designs which can also be used wet/dry, you definitely want to check them out! And let me know what you think?
Be sure to check back later this week as I will be doing a full overview on Primers, what i have found to be the best as for performance, consistency and price point. I actually have many in my kit and believe every product can serve a purpose, as for “Eliminating Creases” I definitely choose the Mac paint pots for those long days of shooting.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BB CREAMS

All the BB creams you can handle:

BB creams are the biggest thing in beauty right now, and no wonder: They make your skin look flawless while delivering amazing skincare benefits too.

But these moisturizer / foundation / SPF hybrids, with their laundry lists of features, can also be incredibly confusing. Are they the same as tinted moisturizers? Do they work for every skin tone? We tested a full lineup of BB creams to uncover the answers, and compiled everything you need to know about these new It-creams.

4 Key Facts About BB Creams:

What is a BB cream? Unfortunately, there’s no single answer. BB creams originated in Germany and exploded in Korea, where they were first used by laser treatment patients to ease post-procedure redness. But now that beauty consumers have embraced BBs, new formulas span a range of shades, textures and skincare benefits.

They’re NOT one shade fits all. Despite what some packages claim, we found a wide range of colors and they don’t all work with every skin tone. You may need to test a few formulas before you find a match.

BBs are best applied with a brush. Just like any complexion makeup, the key to making these tinted balms work is to blend, blend and blend some more. A foundation brush does the job better than fingers.

Layering brings the best results. Though some BB creams aim to replace your entire arsenal of face products, that’s not always realistic. If your skin is extra dry, you’ll want to prep with moisturizer so your BB’s pigment doesn’t stick to dry spots. Also, since most BBs have light to medium coverage, you’ll probably still need concealer for under-eye circles, blemishes, and other discolorations.

Which BB Cream is Right?

OLAY Total Effects 7-in-One Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer SPF 15 is one of the most lightweight of BB creams on the market and only $21.99 available at OLAY Total Effects also comes in Fair-to-Light, Light-to-Medium or Medium-to-Deep.

Olay calls this product a CC cream, the “color correction”-focused sequel to BBs, but the idea is the same. The swirled, dual-phase formula is ultra-light, so it might not replace your foundation. It does give skin a subtle, luminous glow with sheer coverage, and the neutral-toned Fair-to-Light shade was a favorite among our pale-skinned testers who found other BBs too dark.

Best For Pale Skin

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25 PA++  This BB Cream only comes in one shade and is available at Sephora for $34.00

This cream comes from Korea, where BB is a big deal. Its corrective tone counteracts redness, making it ideal for fair complexions with pinkish undertones. The water-based formula soothes skin with a cooling effect and leaves a pretty, dewy finish.

Great for Darker Skin Tones:

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfecter SPF 30 is available now at Maybelline for $7.44 and also comes In Light, Light-Medium, Medium, Medium-Deep, and Deep.

This sheer fluid has a smooth texture that makes blending easy, and the line features one of the darkest BB creams of any we tried. The Deep shade has a warm, caramel tint that helps counteract gray or sallow tones on darker complexions. And with five shades spanning the color range, light to medium skin tones will find a match, too.

Smoothest Texture:

Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfecter SPF 15 is a deal at Only $12.99 at Official Garnier and comes in Light, Light-Medium, Medium and Deep.

The first drugstore BB to launch in the U.S., Garnier’s version has enough coverage to stand in for foundation, and its slightly peachy tone makes skin look sun-kissed. But the biggest draw is its silky-smooth texture that blends flawlessly and blurs away pores.

Best For Uneven Complexions:

VICHY ProEVEN mineral BB Cream is $32.50 and available now at  Official VICHY and  comes in Light or Medium.

Not only does Vichy’s new BB cream cover dark spots short term with its medium coverage formula, the company’s study showed it helps even out skin tone in four weeks.

VICHY

Best For Full Coverage:

Dior Hydra Life BB Crème SPF 30 – PA +++  Is a steal coming In at Only $56.00 and currently available at Sephora and comes in one shade.

Dior’s BB cream was the most pigmented of any we sampled and the closest stand-in for full coverage foundation. Medium skin tones seeking to add warmth to their complexions will do the best with this one; our fair-skinned testers found it too orange on a pale face.

Best Matte Finish:

Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35 Is $42.00 at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and currently comes in Extra Light, Light, Medium and Medium-Dark.

As far as our tester was concerned, this BB cream was just right—not too thick, not too sheer, and with a refined finish that wasn’t overly dewy.

Most Intriguing Active Ingredient:

Rodial BB Venom Skin Tint SPF 15 BB Is only $44.00 and available at Nordstrom.

While we found the shade names confusing (Capri just doesn’t convey color like “ivory” or “beige”), one feature made this BB stand out: Each tube is infused with the company’s signature ingredient, Syn-ake, an anti-aging compound made with synthetic snake venom. And no, it doesn’t BITE…

Dewiest Finish:

Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm SPF 20 Is Now available for only $32.00 at Sephora and also comes In Vanilla Glow, Cream Glow, Nude Glow, and In  Beach Glow.

This BB’s lightweight formula feels amazing on the skin, but you’ll need concealer if you crave coverage. Its super-dewy finish leaves skin looking youthful and glow.

Best For Oily Skin:

L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream  Is Only $10.95 at L’Oreal in Fair, Light, Medium and Deep.

This BB cream is colorless until you blend it into skin, causing its pigment beads to burst (fun to watch!). If you have oily skin and can get past the beads’ initial grainy texture, you’ll love the way this primer-like balm gives a smooth, matte finish.

Celebrity Makeup Secrets Tips and Tricks

Makeup is an art where you use your cosmetics as paints and your face as the canvas to conjure up the desired look. Makeup doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple or as complex as you want and is as unique as the individual. Since everybody has a different complexion and look, no one style will be right for everyone. While choosing a style that will compliment your look your makeup should reflect your personality as well as play up your best features and hide any flaws.

If you thought those ladies roll out of bed looking flawless every morning, nothing could be further from the truth. Even the brightest stars in Hollywood wouldn’t be caught dead without their “face” on. You shouldn’t either. So what? You don’t have a personal makeup artist. That’s irrelevant. You won’t need one when I lay down the Makeup Basics for you. With these tips, you’ll be looking like a star in no time!

First, where else would we start but with your foundation? It didn’t get this name for nothin’. That’s your starting point, and the key is to find one that looks like you don’t have any on! For some, it’s a powder to be brushed on. For others, it’s a liquid to be smoothed on. But whichever you use, you want to appear au naturel.

Second, for your cheeks, eyes, and lips, keep the colors neutral… especially if you’re a beginner. Browns, oranges, greens and golds, earth tones, are always going to be your best bet regardless of your complexion. So for your cheeks, get a large brush and right along your cheekbones, sweep the color of your choice up towards your temples. The easiest way to find the path is to suck your cheeks in like a fish, and the bony structure is where you want to apply the color.

Lip gloss is what’s hot, these days! So, this part is easy. Find a color that looks good on you, in a neutral tone, of course, and spread it on thick! For the lips, the glossier, the better!

Your eyes are where the look will totally come together, so this is the part you really want to get right! Select three colors. For instance, a dark brown, a burnt orange, and gold. Close your eye and apply the dark brown in the crease of your eye. Try not to go too far in (towards the inside corners of your eyes).

Next, take the burnt orange and apply it right along the top of your eyelid (right above the lashes). This time, start from the inside corner and work your way out towards your cheek. Then, trace the underside of your arched eyebrow with the gold shadow. Finish off with sweeping the lashes with a black Mascara.
